A Poem in Our Eyes – Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County
May 18 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
“A Poem in Our Eyes” is a verbal and visual collaboration, between residents of Centre Crest Nursing Home’s memory loss unit, local artists, and a teaching poet.
The exhibit is the culmination of a Ridgelines Language Arts program. It presents the results of weekly sessions during which Centre Crest participants work with a local poet to write collaborative poems in response to paintings, photographs, drawings, prints, and sculptures by Centre County artists.
Participating artists are Norrine Sims, Sophie Najjar, Annie-hannah E Mancini, Mary Vollero, Jennifer Anne Tucker, Rick Avery, Karen Drosnes, Elody Gyekis, Loanne Snavely, Nicole Gargiulo and Scott Dennison.
The public is particularly invited to the opening of this and other new exhibits Sunday from noon to 4:30 p.m., with an artists’ reception and children’s activity from 1 to 4 p.m.
On Friday, May 18 at 6 p.m., the communal poetry writing event “A Poem in Our Eyes,” the last installment in this year’s Out Loud reading series, will honor the imaginations of those living with memory loss, challenge conventional notions of disability, provide an opportunity to learn more about this unique collaboration… and try your own hand at writing spontaneous poems in response to visual art.
This exhibit and others will be on view through Sunday, May 27.
The museum is open from noon to 4:30 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. More information is available by calling 814-355-4280 or visiting www.bellefontemuseum.org.
